Dr. Alex Velez

Dr. Velez is a neuropsychological resident working under the supervision of Dr. Sam Goldstein toward licensure and board certification as a pediatric neuropsychologist.

Dr. Velez completed his doctoral degree in Educational Psychology – School Psychology with an emphasis in Neuroscience and Applied Behavioral Analysis from the University of Nevada – Las Vegas. He also holds a Master of Social Work – Direct Practice from the University of Nevada – Las Vegas, a bachelor's degree in Psychology with an emphasis in neuroscience, and a bachelor's degree in Applied Sociology from Northern Arizona University. Dr. Velez also holds associate degrees in Family Studies and Fire Science from Mohave Community College. He Additionally obtained general and advanced medical training during his time in the military.

Dr. Velez completed his pre-doctoral training through the University of Nevada – Las Vegas Counseling Center, Clark County School District, Karmely LLC., and Healthy Minds LLC. During his pre-doctoral training, he worked as a Psychological and School Psychologist Intern working with youth, teens, and adults. He also completed specialized training in the areas of neuropsychology, assessment design and research, the foster care system, the legal system, substance abuse, trauma, and neurodevelopmental disorders.

Dr. Velez has specialized training and certification in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT). Hypnosis and Biofeedback. Beyond his neurological training, he is a trained School Psychologist. His clinical interests include research, working with children, teens, adults, military veterans, complex cases, and diagnostic and neuropsychological assessments. Dr. Velez uses a broad range of cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavioral, and insight-oriented techniques in the psychotherapy and counseling process. His research and publication interests include Animal Assisted Therapy, Autism, trauma, psychometrics, and addiction. Dr. Velez has also taught a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in addiction, social work, psychology, research method, and statistics.

Ace completed his service dog training through Off Leash K9 Training, LLC. Since completing his training he has served as Dr. Velez’s service animal. Ace also serves as the Neurology Learning and Behavioral Center moral coordinator providing puppy kisses and love to both staff and clients.
